Moon Days: Charge of the Dark Goddess

In honor of the darkening Moon and the Crone within us all:

Charge of the Dark Goddess

"Listen to the words of the Dark Mother, who of old was called Hecate, Nuit, Morrigan, Banba, Erda, Macha, MotherNight, Sekhmet, and many other names:

Whenever you seek wisdom, at the time of the Darkening Moon, come together in love and trust and learn of Me, who am the Wisest of Crones...Ye who search the mysteries of the Earth, the secrets of Air and Darkness, of Blood and Fire, the silence of the uttermost stars, come unto me, and I shall whisper to you in the depths of midnight.

Ye shall approach Me in silence, and as a sign that ye are free from fear, your breast you shall bare to My blade...for fear has no place in My mysteries, and that which you seek of me will destroy you if you fear it.

For I am the dolmen arch beyond which stretch the mysteries of infinity. I am the silence before birth and after death. I am the clouded mirror in which you scry your own soul. I am mist in the twilight, the vast and starry sky of midnight, shadows on the Moon.

All things come to Me in the end, and yet I am the beginning of all. I meet you at the crossroads, I lead you through the darkness, My hand you grasp in the passage between the worlds. To those that toy with Me am I an instrument of self-destruction. yet to the true seeker do I bring knowledge beyond mortal comprehension.

Of you shall I demand the utter truth of all that you are, and in return shall I give you all that you may be, all that I am. For My wisdom is beyond the Ages, and knowledge of My Secrets is power over self, over fear, over death. Nor do I demand aught of you which you cannot give. For I am the Mother of Mysteries, and as you know Me, so shall you learn to know yourself."

Moon Days: Lunar Beauty

via
I really try to follow the Moon phases for my beauty routine. The Moon really affects our bodies through each of the different phases, so take note how She affects you. I hate to generalize, as everyone is different, but try this out for month and see how it works for you! I would love to know!

New Moon: This is a great time to start a detox or new diet or lifestyle change. The sun and moon energies are aligned and the New Moon marks new beginnings. It will be easier and your body will respond more. Get out your dandelion tincture and start adding it to your tea!

Waxing Moon: Our bodies absorb the best during this time, so drink lots of water, eat plenty of fresh fruit and veggies, and apply the lotions and potions for maximum efficiency. Want your hair to grow faster? Cut it during the Waxing moon to stimulate more hair growth. Also, I try to incorporate more movement and exercise during this energy of growing movement.

Full Moon: The Full Moon is the peak of the cycle, so this is the best time to have a facial, and applying face masks for extra potency. Be careful though, it is also said pain is heightened during this time and we are more likely to bleed more, so do not opt for surgery or painful beauty treatments.

Waning Moon: Purifying and detoxing treatments are best during this phase. Whip out your bath salts, get in a sauna, do some hot yoga, and create your own facial steams right now. Dye your hair during this time too, as it should last longer. And since hair growth is slower, pluck your eyebrows and get any waxing treatments done now too. You are less likely to bleed as much.

Astrology signs play a role too! Water signs < Pisces, Scorpio, and Cancer> help absorption; Fire signs < Leo, Sagittarius, and Aries > are better for purifying; Earth signs < Virgo, Taurus, and Capricorn > nourish; and Air < Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius > are more stimulating. Keep these in mind!

I hope these little beauty tips help! Luna is always a great guide :)

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter

Moon Days: Moon Partners

my lepidolite, labradorite, dark moonstones, smoky quartz, and black tourmaline <3

This cycle, I decided to do something different. My best friend and I decided to be Moon Partners. This New Moon, we told each other our intentions for this cycle and on the Full Moon we will celebrate and see how our intentions manifested, aka Goddess Party!

Do you have a moon partner? A close friend and loved one who can witness and keep you accountable? Try it for a cycle and see how it goes!

My intention for this cycle is to create space. This is manifesting in the Apothecary Circle by clearing space in my home, and considering a different space for my blog and offerings! We shall see... everything is still unfolding <3

Moon Days: Ebb and Flow of 2012

Hey loves.

It's been awhile. Too long, as I am writing this in a Denver motel room. We are still trekking back to California and I am ready to get home. Go back to my warm and fuzzy kitty, to our bed, to all the readings I am honored to do for some gorgeous souls, to settle back in, get organized, and work on all the bazillion projects that are swimming in my head. So we are most likely driving all 15 hours tomorrow, wish us luck!

Anyway, today is Moon Day and the last Moon Day of 2012. So this is my way of Lunar releasing to welcome in 2013. You can definitely reflect and answer these questions for yourself too. <3

I am emerging

New Moon of 2012
What did I birth in 2012? Did I try something new?

I birthed Moondaughter :) and it has been such an absolute blessing in my life. I have met and connected with so many other soulful women working towards their own soul paths and creative projects. It is so inspiring. I am so excited where Moondaughter will grow and expand this coming year. It is so exciting!

Something new I've tried? I am slowly learning to hoop dance and hope to put more time and effort into it. It made me realize how disconnected I can be to my body a lot of the time. And it's fun!

Waxing Moon of 2012
What is something I learned?

I have learned a lot about my relationship with Jimmy. I have learned I am a super worrier, while he is way laid back; let go of the small things, it makes it way easier; building communication is key; and joking around keeps you sane.

What is something I am working towards?

In 2012 I have been working towards my MA degree in Museum Studies, and striving for balance. And both are a struggle for me. I am still learning how to juggle life, but that's probably normal.

Full Moon of 2012
What is something I celebrated this year? Fullest moment?

I remember feeling absolute bliss when I was at the cabin in Big Bear for my birthday, with friends all around, and me drinking champagne while trying to hoop to old school rap. Fullest moment for sure for me. I am 26 and ready to take on the world.

Waning Moon of 2012
Something I've let go of. Any lessons I've learned?

I am letting go of judgement in myself. Judgement in my work, my body, my style, my home, my interactions, my reactions, my thoughts. I feel a huge detox coming on in 2013 and ready to purge the negativity.

Deep lessons in trust. Trusting my intuition when I need to let go of situations or interactions with people. Not letting past situations dictate my trust towards my loved ones, especially Jimmy. Trusting the earth and universe to support my path and the choices I make. Trusting I am where I need to be right now. And that is okay.

I will definitely journal more about these when I get back home, but for now, this is my release of 2012. Deep love, passions, and lessons happened this year. I am grateful.

Happy 2013 to you and yours!

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter

A custom wall hanging made by the lovely Laura of Roots and Feathers <3

Happy Moon Day everyone!

My birthday weekend was so fun and a much needed little getaway in the woods. And it still is not over yet! I have two friend dates planned and my boy got us tickets to Knotts Berry Farm! He got me a Trancas Geode that they will cut for me, along with a gift card to get some more crystals! I am so excited! I will post pictures when I get them! I am a very happy 26 year old :)

For now, in honor of the New Moon on the 13th here are some affirmations to help embrace new beginnings and cycles.

I am rejuvenated and ready to grow

I spread my wings and fly

My intentions always nourish and support me

I embrace fresh starts

My eyes are open and I am listening

I plant my seeds for soul growth

Moon-Time Course Launch Date and Sale!

I want to say thank for supporting my VLOG today! It is very vulnerable to put yourself on camera for everyone to see, so good thing I am not too shy, haha!

I wanted to let you all know I have the e-course up for sale on Etsy now. The launch date will be on Monday, October 29th! So before then, I thought I would offer an opening sale!

Until the launch on the 29th it will be listed for $21 instead of my original price of $30. That is 30% off! I love to work with the number 3 with Moon related things; it represents the Maiden/Mother/Crone, Waxing/Full/Waning, so I thought it was very fitting, sacred,  and reasonable for the price. After the 29th it will be listed for $30.

Let's celebrate being women! I can't wait to share this journey with you all!

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter

Moon Days: Giveaway!!

Hi everyone!! Happy Moon Day!!

These are the decks you can choose from!

This weekend I just launched my Follow Your Moon readings on my website!! I am so excited to be offering these to you and to see how they grow and expand!

I don't know about you, but I have never found a tarot/oracle reading focused on the flow of the Moon, so I decided to create my own! My readings follow the phases of the Moon (of course they would) and help you connect with your Lunar cycle (I don't mean your Moon-time) more deeply to help you recognize your own rhythm and relationship with Luna. My readings begin with the New Moon, so I schedule readings on Luna's time :) The next New Moon is next Sunday Sept. 16th so order one if you feel called to do so!

OR enter the Giveaway I am having over at Blessing Manifesting!! This is a beautiful site full of love and wisdom, I am so honored to be there today! Go enter loves!! The winner will be announced Sept. 15th and receive the reading the week of the New Moon!

Love and Blessings,

Moon Days: Luna 101

Since Moon Days have commenced, I realized I have never really given you all a very good introduction to the beautiful Luna I adore. So here it is. It is a pretty long, but informative post, so sit back and relax and grab a cup of tea - it's on me ;)

I am sharing this post over at Polly's blog This Enchanted Pixie too! Enjoy, loves :)

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

Source: raptureandthemuses.tumblr.com via Emily on Pinterest

To begin, the Moon is the closest celestial body to our planet. The Moon's pull on the Earth keeps us tilted on our axis, basically creating and keeping the seasons in balance for all living things! She also controls the tides and essentially all water on our planet, along with the water and fluid in our bodies. Before lights and other factors, most womens' moon-times were connected with the Moon phases; usually menstruating around the New Moon, and ovulating around the Full Moon, following the 28-day Lunar cycle.

Our ancient ancestors knew how powerful the Moon is. They relied on the Moon's power more heavily than we do now; it controls animals' migrating habits which is needed for hunting, plants' abilities to hold on to water which is good to know for planting, and it was the only light source in the night sky before the light bulb was invented.

What makes the Moon more mysterious is Her phases. I started to fall in love with the Moon on my bike rides home from school in the middle of the night. I  noticed that She always looked different and some nights I couldn't see Her and it made me sad. I definitely was intrigued, and as I delved into researching Her mysterious ways, I started to learn about Her phases and I couldn't believe I never noticed or knew about this phenomena in the sky before! I couldn't believe how much I took Luna for granted.

Since then, learning about the Moon and Her phases, I have learned so much about myself and my own behavior. I have learned to utilize and work with Her power, and in turn, it has become a sacred journey every month, and it is wonderful. I feel everyone, but especially women, should learn to work with the Moon and discover their own unique flow and rhythm. I feel apart of my purpose here is to help other women discover this sacred knowledge.

Below, is a little snippet about each phase, and what you can do to work with it! Enjoy loves :)

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

The New Moon is actually between the Earth and the Sun so it is hidden from view. This is the beginning of the Lunar cycle and is a rebirth and regeneration of energy. It is a more restful calming energy though and becomes more active closer to the Full Moon. This is a good time to explore new projects and goals you wish to see through. It is also ideal to rekindle or start new love (I actually met my boyfriend, not knowingly at the time, on the New Moon!) and if  you want your hair to grow fast plan a hair cut during this phase! New Moon energy lasts from the day of until 3 1/2 days later. This is also the time to plant new seeds.

Next New Moon: August 17th 2012

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

There are three different phases in the Waxing Moon phase:

The Waxing Crescent is right after the New Moon and lasts for 3 1/2 days as well. The energy is building up, so this is a great time to start gathering your ideas and research for your plans that you planted during the New Moon. Physical exercise is essential to help balance the building energy in your body, and be mindful of what you put in your body during the Waxing phase; the body absorbs more whether it is good or bad. This is a time for building a strong foundation- physically, mentally, and spiritually. Listen to your intuition and what your body needs, and do that.

Next Waxing Crescent: August 20th 2012

The First Quarter Moon looks cut in half; half light, half dark. This is a time for balancing. You may feel a lot of energy at this time and it may feel overwhelming, but learning to balance and refocus this energy at this time is key. This phase is also the time of germination of seeds, breaking free of the shell and growing towards light. Break free of your fears and whatever is holding you back at the time and keep on toward your goals. Call upon Warrior Maiden Goddesses, such as Artemis, Diana, Athena, Brighit to help you give you that extra push and motivation.

Next First Quarter: August 24th 2012

During the Waxing Gibbous the Moon is more than half full, and this occurs 10 days after the New Moon. It may appear as though there is no movement or growth at this time, but like the shoots growing up toward the light, just because you can't see growth it is there. Stay hopeful and optimistic at this time as the environment is preparing for the Full Moon. You can prepare for the Full Moon by checking off your to-do list and tying up any loose ends. Patience maybe tested at this time.

Next Waxing Gibbous: August 27th 2012

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

The Full Moon is a gem in the sky. A perfect silver sphere brightening the night. Animals are more active at this time, taking advantage of the extra light. Take advantage of this energy by doing any major works or goals you have wanted to do, but haven't gotten around to now. The Full Moon is also the time of the Mother Goddess; Isis, Selene, Hera, Demeter, Inanna, Astarte, so the energy is a fertile and protective kind. The Full Moon is a great time if you are trying to conceive! It is also a time of celebration and gratitude. Be careful with your skin too, buts bleed more at this time. The shoots should be breaking through the soil if you planted seeds in the New Moon.

Next Full Moon: August 31st 2012 (The Blue Moon too! I wrote a post about this here)

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

There are three phases in the Waning Moon phase:

The Waning Gibbous is about 3 1/2 days after the Full Moon. The Waning Moon slowly decreases until its a New Moon again. The energy is more reflective; reflective of the things that have come to past and what is no longer needed. This is a good time to think about what you can release and let go of for the next Lunar cycle. Meditation and journaling is great for this phase. The Waning phase also represent the Crone Goddesses, such as Hecate, Morrigan, or Baba Yaga, who you can call upon to help you release and let go.

Next Waning Gibbous: September 4th 2012

The Third Quarter, or Last Quarter moon is a great time to do some sort of release ceremony to symbolize your letting go. It is best to release a negative habit, an addiction, a bad relationship, a fear, or just negative energy that has built up since the New Moon. Having reflected upon it earlier you should have a pretty good idea of what you need to do. Ways to release are going to a sweat lodge, guided meditation, yoga with a lot of twisting to detoxify, or you could also try this simple releasing ritual I wrote here. Whatever you decide to do, the Waning Moon asks of you to look within and see past the darkness, while the Waxing Moon asks you to make physical change in your life. Do not be afraid to do this work. All our fears just want to be loved.

Next Last Quarter: September 8th 2012

We alas come to the end of the Lunar cycle with the Waning Crescent before we come full circle to the New Moon. This is the time for rest and a little hibernation before the rebirth. You have done so much work to get here, you deserve a little break! Restorative yoga is great at this time. The animals are more calm, people are more mellow, this is usually a quiet period. Pamper yourself, and take that bath, or lounge in your pj's today, it's okay. Give yourself permission to rest without any feelings of guilt. Cultivate an attitude of gratitude for this past Lunar month you completed with awareness.

Next Waning Crescent: September 12th 2012

And so the cycle thus begins again...
