New Moon Giveaway: Nourish Offering

Happy New Moon in Taurus!

Taurus New Moon is earthy; inviting all your senses to indulge and nourish.

And I can't think of a better giveaway than this.

One lovely soul will win this: Ally Sand's Earth Oils Nourishing kit with the Headache Relief Oil, Aura Cleanse Gemstone-infused Massage Oil, a set of the Full and New Moon Bath Teas, and a Quartz crystal mined from the San Diego Desert!

Here is some info about the Goddess behind Earth Oils:

I started this shop after a long time dream I had to make a crystal infused line of products. I started putting crystals in my massage oils a few years ago, and I wanted to bring the healing powers it gave me to the world. I have also suffered with migraines since my teenage years, and I have been using my own roll on remedy which I have infused with amethyst and quartz for its extra healing powers. I am a huge lover of baths, and I always take a cleansing ritual bath before practicing any kind of spell or during full/new moons. I created a unique set of bath soaks and teas for you lunar ladies who wish to cleanse your body before any kind of rite on the full/new moons or just want to feel extra special and relax in a luxurious floral bath. Everything is made with organic essential oils and all the bath soaks are fragrance free to allow the natural scent of the herbs and flowers to really stand out.

I personally have her Headache Relief Oil and I love it! The Peppermint is not crazy overpowering but smells so intoxicating and feminine. And it does the job quickly! I love that it is a roll on for easy application to my temples, forehead and neck. I would almost wear it as perfume!

Last, but not least, another winner will win these two AMAZING prints from the artist Gwen Davies!

Aren't these beautiful?! The details are breathtaking.

I had originally ordered them just for myself, but me living in the US and her in Wales, it took longer than expected to get here. I contacted her about it and she immediately and generously sent me another copy. A few days later my prints actually arrived, and these ones too! I knew I had to share the love and asked her if I could include them in the giveaway and she was delighted! So whoever wins these beauties, I will be shipping them out to you from the US and they are still unopened and untouched :)

Full Moon: Libra/Venus Bath Soak

A lot of Moon happenings are going on right now! The first KV Full Moon report is live so check out your individual signs and the moon ceremony I created over there, as well as the beautiful art from Laura and a releasing ritual from Katelyn!

I wanted to do something a little bit different over here. Something more gentle embracing the Goddess Venus as her sign, Libra, is  ruling the Full Moon this month.

Taking a ritual bath is a really great way to embrace Lunar qualities, help to release stresses and anything blocking our energy, and get in touch with Venus and our body.

I created this recipe that I call Love Soak:
(I just filled my container and not necessarily any measurement)

3/4 Organic sea salt
A handful of pink Himalayan salt
Handful dried rose petals
Handful dried lavender buds
4-5 petals of dry pink hibiscus
6 drops Ylang Ylang oil
6 drops Geranium oil
1-2 drops vanilla essential oil
And mix altogether!

I loooooove the smell of this. As it settles, the aroma is just divine. The Hibiscus makes the water pink too! So add however much you want to increase the color! You can even add rose quartz, or whatever stones you want to soak with (just be careful they don't dissolve in water!).

The Full Moon is a great time to purify and cleanse your energy.

Tonight to either prepare for a Full Moon ritual, or to just relax and cleanse into the Lunar qualities, take a nice bath. Light candles, set the mood with music, light some incense - get in touch with your inner Venus. While in the bath, imagine all the negative energy leaving your body absorbing into the water.

Libra is about balancing, so think about what is out of balance in your priorities. Becoming aware and adding the things you need to nourish you will create more harmony and keep you in touch with your Venus qualities.

What are you doing this Full Moon?

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter

International Self-Love Day: Love Space of Laura Mazurek

>> In honor of International Self- Love Day <<

Hello Moondaughter readers!  I'm Laura from Roots and Feathers.  I'm excited to be here on Marissa's blog today sharing a little love nest I made in my home for the whole month of February in honor of Love.  I don't normally celebrate Valentine's Day really at all.  My husband and I don't exchange gifts or plan romantic dates.  It's always kind of seemed a bit silly to me.  But, I do love to honor Love itself.  And when Marissa asked me to share an altar of mine during February, I thought it would be wonderful to have a little space set up in our home for the whole month, in honor of this word.

The things I chose to place here in this space go beyond just the love between my husband and I, but also for self love.  As I was building it I realized just how healing it was.  I had just received these two prints from Erica Herbert, of the two beautiful naked woman.  The colors and playfulness of them bring me so much joy.  My own sexuality is something I need healing in, and these prints remind me of that.  I added specific stones for this as well.  Stepping into the age of such deep femininity, my journey here has began to get very real.  Setting these intentions I feel is opening up my being to the healing vibrations.

I also chose very calming elements, like my amethyst cluster, my donovan record, a lavendar peacock feather, and some lavender herbs. And the incense and sage.  These things bring me peace and a great sense of relaxation, which I think is a state needed for this healing process.  I included two rose petals in the lavender mix, representing my parents (who are both gone).  My journey of love and healing has so much to do with them and their loss.  I also added a medicine pouch my dear friend Lauren Luquin made me filled with healing intentions just for this.  It is such a sacred piece to me.  The beeswax candle is one made for feminine sexuality.

The little prayer flag is one I made for my shop, a little series of textile flags with words of intention.  I decided to keep it in this space until its ready for a new home.

Having this little space full of these things, in a place in my home I regularly walk by, has been a nice daily reminder.  I think Id love to create a new one each month, with a new intention.  My word for the year is Cultivate.  So maybe something Id like to Cultivate each month.

I hope everyone enjoys this International Self Love Day.  Id love to know if you plan on carving out a moment for yourself, and what you intend to do.  How do you celebrate your own sacred femininity through self love?  I think we can always learn from each other and help each other in these ways.  Thank you so much for sharing a moment in my space.

Peace,
Laura

Thank you so much Laura for sharing your beauty and sincerity. You are an inspiration <3

Moon Days: Guest Post, Moon Salutations

Happy Moon Day!!
I L.O.V.E this guest post about yoga and the moon today. Enjoy loves!

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

Hello, Moondaughter readers! I am so excited to be contributing to Marissa's Moon Days series. Hers was one of the first blogs I started following that had a more soulful nature to it, and it has been so inspirational to me. I blog over at abhaya, and one of my biggest passions is my yoga practice. Today I thought I'd share a bit about moon salutations.

If you have ever been to a yoga class, chances are you did a sun salutation or two or have heard the term before. Sun salutations are very common in most Hatha-based practices, but its counterpart, the moon salutation, is very rarely practiced. In fact, in all of my years of taking classes, I have only ever been in one class where we did this. "Hatha" means sun ("ha") and moon ("tha"), and the concept of practicing this style of yoga is that you are finding balance between these two powerful forces. The sun energies are more dynamic, fiery, masculine, and external, while moon energies are more passive, cooling, feminine, and inward focused. The moon salutation honors the yin side of our beings, and is a powerful way of connecting with the Divine Feminine.

This is a lovely sequence to practice anytime you feel a need to turn inward a bit; to re-connect with yourself and find focus. It is also a great sequence to practice before bed to help prepare for a night of restful sleep.

You can repeat it as many times as feels right for you. I hope you try this sequence if you've never done it before! And pop on over to my blog where I share more about yoga, my photography, my life, and living naturally and with intention.

Namaste!
-Sondra

Guest Post: DIY Hula Hoop!

So I recently got into hooping with some friends and when Tamber said she would like to show everyone how to make a hoop on the blog, I had to say YES!! So here it is! Thank you Tamber!!

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

I'm going to show you a few tricks for making your own hoop at home.

Here's what you'll need:
-3/4" or 1/2" 100psi Black Irrigation Tubing.  This can usually be found at most hardware stores, you may have to buy a whole roll--enough for a few hoops.  I recommend 3/4" for beginners, but you can use 1/2" as well.
-Connectors.  They should be somewhere in the same aisle as the tubing, get the same size as the tubing you chose.
-Something to cut the tubing with.  If you think you will enjoy making your own hoops, I would highly recommend a cutter like the one I have pictured.  It makes life so much easier than using a saw, etc.
-Tape.  Electrical tape is cheapest and you can pick that up while you're at the hardware store, but if you want fancy shiny tape you will more than likely have to order some.  I use this website.  (http://identi-tape.com/hooptape.html) They have shiny and glitter tapes, glow in the dark tape, and gaffer's tape (for extra grip).
-Scissors.  For cutting the tape.

Step 1: Cut the Tubing to Size
For a beginner I recommend 3/4" tubing for a hoop that measures from the floor to about your belly button, or larger if desired.  The bigger the hoop, the slower it turns...the slower it turns, the easier it is to learn a trick!  It's nice to have different sized hoops hanging around.  Sometimes if I'm having trouble learning a trick I'll pick up a larger hoop and try it out for a little bit.  Once I've got it down with the bigger hoop it translates pretty easily back down to the size I usually use.

Step 2: Put the Connector in
You can cut a few notches off of the connector (as shown) with your cutters (be Careful!! those little ends will fly!) so it doesn't create such a flat spot in the hoop, but if you don't have a cutter the connector can go in as is.  You can heat up the ends of the tubing with a hair dryer to soften them up so that the connector goes in more easily.

Step 3: Tape!
(Taping can be a bit of a challenge the first time, but it gets easier each time you make a hoop..)
With electrical tape of any color, go over the spot where the connector is a couple times to reenforce that joint a little.

I put down a layer of electrical tape first.  I like the stripe look so I spin two tapes at once, but using only one color is perfectly fine too.  I hold the hoop between my legs and use both hands to turn and guide the two tapes around the hoop at the same time for the stripe technique.  The trick to taping is getting the right angle so that the tape slightly overlaps and you don't have any gaps where you can see the black tubing underneath.

If fancy tape isn't in your budget right now, don't worry you can just use electrical tape--or even strips of pretty leftover fabric, be creative!

*If you want some extra grip, you can put gaffers tape around the inside of the hoop.  Be sure this is one of the middle tapes and not the last to go down, because it will peel away really easily if it doesn't have any other tape over top.  You can also put it along the same way as the electrical tape---that stuff comes in plenty of colors too!

*If you're using shiny tape it has a paper backing on it...I recommend not trying to use it right off of the roll but cutting it into manageable lengths and pulling the backing off as you go.  Angles are REALLY important for shiny tape.  I always border my shiny tape with thin electrical tape or gaff so that it lasts longer.

Step 4: Hoop!!
Go outside if you can, put on your favorite jams, and dance with your new partner!  Youtube has a ton of great tutorials and hoop videos for inspiration and how-to.

I have met so many wonderful inspiring people through being involved in my hoop dance community and I’ve had a ton of fun too.  Since becoming a full time student I haven’t had the time to be as involved as I once was but I still regularly hang out with many of the people I’ve met. Together we’ve helped out at kids’ events and benefits through a non-profit we started called RVA Hoop House (http://rvahoophouse.org/) and performed regular and fire hoop at bars with bands or at outdoor events.  I’ve even substitute taught hoop dance classes for friends a couple times. I never really sought out to do any of these things---I’m actually kind of shy---but my friends were encouraging and inclusive and I always have a blast.  You would be surprised how many opportunities there are out there!

Here are a couple sites you might find helpful for learning more or making new hoop friends:

Hooping.org. (http://www.hooping.org/)  There is a plethora of all things hoop here.
Hoop City (http://www.hoopcity.ca/)  It's kind of like facebook for hoopers.  Make a profile and connect with other folks.
Meetup (http://www.meetup.com/) This site is not just for hoopers, it's a great place to find other things that are going on in your community too.  You can use this site to find hoop dance classes or local hoop jams.  Here in Richmond, we have tons of things for hoopers to do and a lot of the word gets out through facebook and/or meetup.

Happy Hooping! :)
