Seasonal Turning: Spring Inspirations

I used to only be a Fall and Winter kind of gal. But now, through honoring the turning of the seasons, I am feeling  anticipation and excitement for each one. Each season has their own medicine for us. I am excited for the birds to perch on my office window, perfect weather, wearing my long skirts with sandals, laying in the grass and attempting to make flower crowns. Spring is so renewing and fresh. My bones are feeling tired so I hope Spring will wake me up!

And OmGoddess next Monday is BIG. A BIG giveaway, a BIG project, and the Live Workshop begins with Aphrodite!

Also, Elisabeth Stone's Wheel of the Year is kicking off this Spring! Ahhhh!!

Now I got to get back to work, but enjoy these images :)

Thoughts and New Items

I love to crochet, yet somehow I always forget I do. I can go through months without crocheting and be in a weird funk and when I start crocheting again it disappears. I cut myself off from my own creativity - what is up with that? I think apart of it is not allowing myself to call myself an artist...like I am unworthy of that title. I studied acting for years, was on stage, crocheted as a hobby, but since I have not been acting or trying to pursue Hollywood (no way, no how) I need a creative outlet. It's that simple.

I am a creative person. I am an artist.

Crocheting is just so relaxing and nostalgic to me. It reminds me of my dad's girlfriend; she has been my mama since I was 2. It wasn't until the end of high school and my college years that I started getting more and more closer to her. And we would bond by crocheting. She walked me through granny squares and motifs and gave me good tips and always supplies me with extra hooks and yarn :). Whenever I crochet I think of her and miss her. I live in Southern Cali while they live up north and I won't be seeing them for the holidays this year. So crocheting makes me feel closer to her.

It wasn't until last year I started to seriously consider selling and sharing my work. I love to crochet gifts for my friends and family, but I though I would try my luck with Etsy. However, so many people sell their crochet items already, it is so hard to stand out amidst the beanies and scarves. I have struggled finding my niche with my art, but I feel I have finally found it.

I am so spiritually inclined and with the evolution of my blog here, I want to make crochet items with spirit at the center of it all. I am in the middle of designing more dream catchers, moon phase bags, tarot/rune bags and more. Not to mention more courses and e-books and other soul works. I am excited for the upcoming year and new chapter of Moondaughter.

With all of that being said, I am finally stocking crochet items in my shop!
I am also open to custom orders and requests! Just convo me on Etsy :)

Full Moon: Corn Moon

Happy Full Moon everyone!

This August is so exciting because there are TWO Full Moons, aka the Blue Moon! I wrote a guest blog about this wonderful phenomena over here: Gypsy Moth Sol: Blue Moon

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

Today is also called the Corn Moon and it also falls on the Celtic holiday Lughnasa or Lammas. This holiday is also apart of the Wheel of the Year and the celebration of the seasonal cycles of Mama Earth. This is an Irish Gaelic name for the feast which commemorates the funeral games of Lugh, Celtic god of light, and son of the Sun.  In the mythological story of the Wheel of the Year, the Sun God transfers his power into the grain, and is sacrificed when the grain is harvested. Today is all about celebrating the first fruits of harvest, the fruits of our labors, and cultivating an attitude of gratitude for all the abundance that is in our lives.

Today would be a great day to go on a picnic, make bread (in my case, gluten-free), or just spend some time in the sun's warmth.

For this Lammas, write a list of everything you are grateful for this past year and what you are looking forward to!

Moon Days: Hay Moon

Happy Moon Day!

Tomorrow is the Full Moon! The Full Moon is a time of celebration and reflection of your goals you set during the Waxing Moon phase. The Full Moon in July is also called Hay Moon, for the harvest season is about to begin! Harvest-ly speaking, as a society nowadays, we are not too in-tuned with the seasons in respects to our food. We do not farm as much or hunt or gather, but shop at a grocery store for our food needs. We haven't needed to follow the cycles of our fruits and veggies as closely (though some people still do), yet we depend on the harvest so much to feed our bodies. I feel it is grounding and nourishing to connect with our food in this way, and it brings us closer to the cycles of nature.

This Hay Moon, I would challenge you to think about your own harvest and where it is coming from. Some things that have been helping me:
  • Buy organic: it is a little more expensive but worth it. No pesticides + healthier soil = healthier plants that you are putting into your body!
  • Follow the seasons: eat what's in season and connect with Mama Earth (and it is cheaper). I am stocking up on mangoes for my yummy breakfast juice! Other fruits and veggies for summer are: melons, mango, peaches, nectarines, apricots, strawberries, sweet peppers, garden peas, tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, there are plenty to choose from!
  • CSA: look into Community Supported Agriculture. You get to buy beautiful baskets of organic fruits and veggies that are in season from your local organic farms. You pick up your baskets every other week and it is just a great way to support your community!
  • Farmers Markets: Check out the farmers markets in your area (each city or county, usually has one) and shop for local fruit and veggies there. When you buy local your fruits and veggies are more fresh!
I was pretty ill prepared going into my 10 day juice fast, so I am easing into it. I will definitely do a 10 juice fast in the near future. For now, I am striving for the above actions!

Now go celebrate your harvest, whatever it may be, with gratitude this Hay Moon!

Summer Solstice

Happy Summer Solstice everyone! Today we get the most sun rays of the year, before the sun slowly descends into hibernation for the Winter. The cycles of the Sun and Moon never cease to amaze me... sigh. I will definitely be getting out of the house and enjoying the sun (our room we rent does not even have a window for the sun to come in!)

I like S I M P L E when it comes to celebrating the Wheel of the Year. On my spiritual path, I have never done any elaborate rituals, but simple ones instead. Some simple ways to connect to the Summer Solstice (or Litha) are:

  • Go outside and bask in the Sun. Feel the Sun's rays lighting you up from the inside. Meditate on this for as long as you like.
  • Pick some Sunflowers and bring the Sun into your home!
  • Heading out to the beach is a great way to start the Summer.
  • If you have to stay inside today, light a candle and thank the Sun, Apollo, Great Spirit, Goddess, whoever you call Divine, for the Sun's warmth and blessings this Summer will bring.

Yesterday was also a New Moon, and how fitting to create a new venture with the launch of my blog and new website design! I added a cool Chakra Guide and ebook to my FREE Offerings page, so do check them out!

This New Moon is also in Gemini, and I am no astrologer by any means, so I rely on Moon Circles for my Moon Astrology knowledge. Dana wrote a great New Moon in Gemini article here.

With that, I think I will head outside and feel the Sun's warmth on my skin :) Have a Happy Summer Solstice!

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter
