Moon Days: Ebb and Flow of 2012

Hey loves.

It's been awhile. Too long, as I am writing this in a Denver motel room. We are still trekking back to California and I am ready to get home. Go back to my warm and fuzzy kitty, to our bed, to all the readings I am honored to do for some gorgeous souls, to settle back in, get organized, and work on all the bazillion projects that are swimming in my head. So we are most likely driving all 15 hours tomorrow, wish us luck!

Anyway, today is Moon Day and the last Moon Day of 2012. So this is my way of Lunar releasing to welcome in 2013. You can definitely reflect and answer these questions for yourself too. <3

I am emerging

New Moon of 2012:
What did I birth in 2012? Did I try something new?

I birthed Moondaughter :) and it has been such an absolute blessing in my life. I have met and connected with so many other soulful women working towards their own soul paths and creative projects. It is so inspiring. I am so excited where Moondaughter will grow and expand this coming year. It is so exciting!

Something new I've tried? I am slowly learning to hoop dance and hope to put more time and effort into it. It made me realize how disconnected I can be to my body a lot of the time. And it's fun!

Waxing Moon of 2012:
What is something I learned?

I have learned a lot about my relationship with Jimmy. I have learned I am a super worrier, while he is way laid back; let go of the small things, it makes it way easier; building communication is key; and joking around keeps you sane.

What is something I am working towards?

In 2012 I have been working towards my MA degree in Museum Studies, and striving for balance. And both are a struggle for me. I am still learning how to juggle life, but that's probably normal.

Full Moon of 2012:
What is something I celebrated this year? Fullest moment?

I remember feeling absolute bliss when I was at the cabin in Big Bear for my birthday, with friends all around, and me drinking champagne while trying to hoop to old school rap. Fullest moment for sure for me. I am 26 and ready to take on the world.

Waning Moon of 2012:
Something I've let go of. Any lessons I've learned?

I am letting go of judgement in myself. Judgement in my work, my body, my style, my home, my interactions, my reactions, my thoughts. I feel a huge detox coming on in 2013 and ready to purge the negativity.

Deep lessons in trust. Trusting my intuition when I need to let go of situations or interactions with people. Not letting past situations dictate my trust towards my loved ones, especially Jimmy. Trusting the earth and universe to support my path and the choices I make. Trusting I am where I need to be right now. And that is okay.

I will definitely journal more about these when I get back home, but for now, this is my release of 2012. Deep love, passions, and lessons happened this year. I am grateful.

Happy 2013 to you and yours!

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter

Moon Calendars

Hi loves!

A couple of ladies have asked if I know of any good moon calendars, so here are a couple I recommend:

My top pick: We'Moon 2013 Wall Calendar: The Other Side

We'Moon is a great resource for women. I have had the datebook and it has poetry, rituals, and each year has a theme. 2013 is The Other Side. I am getting the wall calendar this time around because I looove how they have each phase of each day, it makes it very clear!

I love the artwork in these calendars and it definitely reminds me to stay in touch with the seasons and rhythms of the Mama Earth.

The one is fun! I have the 2012 edition and the pictures are gorgeous, but the glow-in-the-dark (the reason I bought it) is kind of weak. The phases of each day are supposed to glow but they are pretty small so maybe that's why. It was still a nice calendar though.

My favorite datebook/planner: The Sacred Journey

This datebook/planner has a calendars, worksheets, journals, and even tarot/oracle layouts, an has a lot of space to write! I write big so I need that! I have the 2012 planner and I love it.

So these are my choices, and ones I recommend. I hope this helps!

I think I will eventually have to make my own Lunar calendar and workbook...

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter

Grounding

After releasing a big project, I have heard you can go through an unsettling phase after. I sure am. The phase has a theme of ungrounded, scattered energy. Everything is scattered: my thoughts, emotions, my clothes, and my energy is a big blah. I have been floating in the ether for so long, my soul is not use to Earth at the moment. And to be completely honest, Earth has always felt like foreign ground to me; I believe we all have themes and lessons we must learn in this lifetime, and one of mine is Earth Medicine. My lower chakras, pertaining to my physical body (mostle root and sacral) have always been imbalanced, so it is time to bring back some nourishment, me thinks. It has been far too long Marissa.

Samhain was not the best for me this year, a lot of issues surfaced, and it made me realize how much I need a clearing out in all areas of my life. And it needs to start with me, in my body, in my mind, in my heart and soul. The sacred sage bundle (above) and a beautiful set of stones (above is Garnet) is exactly what my soul needed this morning. I ordered this set from Sage Goddess and it was one of the first things I woke up to. The sage bundle has rosemary and rose petals and smells absolutely divine. I have been carrying it around with me all day just smelling and savoring it. I even smudged the inside of my car and it got way too smoky in there, haha, lesson learned! It is healing to say the least. And Garnet is a stone of the root chakra so I have been keeping myself grounded.

A nice start off to November, I think. Keep yourselves grounded loves and remember releasing is  apart of life (more of a reminder to me). Love to you all this November <3

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter

Moon-Time Course Launch Date and Sale!

I want to say thank for supporting my VLOG today! It is very vulnerable to put yourself on camera for everyone to see, so good thing I am not too shy, haha!

I wanted to let you all know I have the e-course up for sale on Etsy now. The launch date will be on Monday, October 29th! So before then, I thought I would offer an opening sale!

Until the launch on the 29th it will be listed for $21 instead of my original price of $30. That is 30% off! I love to work with the number 3 with Moon related things; it represents the Maiden/Mother/Crone, Waxing/Full/Waning, so I thought it was very fitting, sacred,  and reasonable for the price. After the 29th it will be listed for $30.

Let's celebrate being women! I can't wait to share this journey with you all!

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter

Moon Days: Luna 101

Since Moon Days have commenced, I realized I have never really given you all a very good introduction to the beautiful Luna I adore. So here it is. It is a pretty long, but informative post, so sit back and relax and grab a cup of tea - it's on me ;)

I am sharing this post over at Polly's blog This Enchanted Pixie too! Enjoy, loves :)

To begin, the Moon is the closest celestial body to our planet. The Moon's pull on the Earth keeps us tilted on our axis, basically creating and keeping the seasons in balance for all living things! She also controls the tides and essentially all water on our planet, along with the water and fluid in our bodies. Before lights and other factors, most womens' moon-times were connected with the Moon phases; usually menstruating around the New Moon, and ovulating around the Full Moon, following the 28-day Lunar cycle.

Our ancient ancestors knew how powerful the Moon is. They relied on the Moon's power more heavily than we do now; it controls animals' migrating habits which is needed for hunting, plants' abilities to hold on to water which is good to know for planting, and it was the only light source in the night sky before the light bulb was invented.

What makes the Moon more mysterious is Her phases. I started to fall in love with the Moon on my bike rides home from school in the middle of the night. I  noticed that She always looked different and some nights I couldn't see Her and it made me sad. I definitely was intrigued, and as I delved into researching Her mysterious ways, I started to learn about Her phases and I couldn't believe I never noticed or knew about this phenomena in the sky before! I couldn't believe how much I took Luna for granted.

Since then, learning about the Moon and Her phases, I have learned so much about myself and my own behavior. I have learned to utilize and work with Her power, and in turn, it has become a sacred journey every month, and it is wonderful. I feel everyone, but especially women, should learn to work with the Moon and discover their own unique flow and rhythm. I feel apart of my purpose here is to help other women discover this sacred knowledge.

Below, is a little snippet about each phase, and what you can do to work with it! Enjoy loves :)

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

The New Moon is actually between the Earth and the Sun so it is hidden from view. This is the beginning of the Lunar cycle and is a rebirth and regeneration of energy. It is a more restful calming energy though and becomes more active closer to the Full Moon. This is a good time to explore new projects and goals you wish to see through. It is also ideal to rekindle or start new love (I actually met my boyfriend, not knowingly at the time, on the New Moon!) and if  you want your hair to grow fast plan a hair cut during this phase! New Moon energy lasts from the day of until 3 1/2 days later. This is also the time to plant new seeds.

Next New Moon: August 17th 2012

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

There are three different phases in the Waxing Moon phase:

The Waxing Crescent is right after the New Moon and lasts for 3 1/2 days as well. The energy is building up, so this is a great time to start gathering your ideas and research for your plans that you planted during the New Moon. Physical exercise is essential to help balance the building energy in your body, and be mindful of what you put in your body during the Waxing phase; the body absorbs more whether it is good or bad. This is a time for building a strong foundation- physically, mentally, and spiritually. Listen to your intuition and what your body needs, and do that.

Next Waxing Crescent: August 20th 2012

The First Quarter Moon looks cut in half; half light, half dark. This is a time for balancing. You may feel a lot of energy at this time and it may feel overwhelming, but learning to balance and refocus this energy at this time is key. This phase is also the time of germination of seeds, breaking free of the shell and growing towards light. Break free of your fears and whatever is holding you back at the time and keep on toward your goals. Call upon Warrior Maiden Goddesses, such as Artemis, Diana, Athena, Brighit to help you give you that extra push and motivation.

Next First Quarter: August 24th 2012

During the Waxing Gibbous the Moon is more than half full, and this occurs 10 days after the New Moon. It may appear as though there is no movement or growth at this time, but like the shoots growing up toward the light, just because you can't see growth it is there. Stay hopeful and optimistic at this time as the environment is preparing for the Full Moon. You can prepare for the Full Moon by checking off your to-do list and tying up any loose ends. Patience maybe tested at this time.

Next Waxing Gibbous: August 27th 2012

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

The Full Moon is a gem in the sky. A perfect silver sphere brightening the night. Animals are more active at this time, taking advantage of the extra light. Take advantage of this energy by doing any major works or goals you have wanted to do, but haven't gotten around to now. The Full Moon is also the time of the Mother Goddess; Isis, Selene, Hera, Demeter, Inanna, Astarte, so the energy is a fertile and protective kind. The Full Moon is a great time if you are trying to conceive! It is also a time of celebration and gratitude. Be careful with your skin too, buts bleed more at this time. The shoots should be breaking through the soil if you planted seeds in the New Moon.

Next Full Moon: August 31st 2012 (The Blue Moon too! I wrote a post about this here)

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

There are three phases in the Waning Moon phase:

The Waning Gibbous is about 3 1/2 days after the Full Moon. The Waning Moon slowly decreases until its a New Moon again. The energy is more reflective; reflective of the things that have come to past and what is no longer needed. This is a good time to think about what you can release and let go of for the next Lunar cycle. Meditation and journaling is great for this phase. The Waning phase also represent the Crone Goddesses, such as Hecate, Morrigan, or Baba Yaga, who you can call upon to help you release and let go.

Next Waning Gibbous: September 4th 2012

The Third Quarter, or Last Quarter moon is a great time to do some sort of release ceremony to symbolize your letting go. It is best to release a negative habit, an addiction, a bad relationship, a fear, or just negative energy that has built up since the New Moon. Having reflected upon it earlier you should have a pretty good idea of what you need to do. Ways to release are going to a sweat lodge, guided meditation, yoga with a lot of twisting to detoxify, or you could also try this simple releasing ritual I wrote here. Whatever you decide to do, the Waning Moon asks of you to look within and see past the darkness, while the Waxing Moon asks you to make physical change in your life. Do not be afraid to do this work. All our fears just want to be loved.

Next Last Quarter: September 8th 2012

We alas come to the end of the Lunar cycle with the Waning Crescent before we come full circle to the New Moon. This is the time for rest and a little hibernation before the rebirth. You have done so much work to get here, you deserve a little break! Restorative yoga is great at this time. The animals are more calm, people are more mellow, this is usually a quiet period. Pamper yourself, and take that bath, or lounge in your pj's today, it's okay. Give yourself permission to rest without any feelings of guilt. Cultivate an attitude of gratitude for this past Lunar month you completed with awareness.

Next Waning Crescent: September 12th 2012

And so the cycle thus begins again...

Full Moon: Corn Moon

Happy Full Moon everyone!

This August is so exciting because there are TWO Full Moons, aka the Blue Moon! I wrote a guest blog about this wonderful phenomena over here: Gypsy Moth Sol: Blue Moon

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

Source: dreamywhites.blogspot.com via Anna on Pinterest

Today is also called the Corn Moon and it also falls on the Celtic holiday Lughnasa or Lammas. This holiday is also apart of the Wheel of the Year and the celebration of the seasonal cycles of Mama Earth. This is an Irish Gaelic name for the feast which commemorates the funeral games of Lugh, Celtic god of light, and son of the Sun.  In the mythological story of the Wheel of the Year, the Sun God transfers his power into the grain, and is sacrificed when the grain is harvested. Today is all about celebrating the first fruits of harvest, the fruits of our labors, and cultivating an attitude of gratitude for all the abundance that is in our lives.

Today would be a great day to go on a picnic, make bread (in my case, gluten-free), or just spend some time in the sun's warmth.

For this Lammas, write a list of everything you are grateful for this past year and what you are looking forward to!

Love and Lammas Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter

Moon Days: Waning Moon

Hello Gorgeous souls! Today is Moon Day again, and now that the Full Moon has passed, She is in her Waning phase. Her light shines less and less in the 2 weeks after the Full Moon until She is resting in the shelter of her New Moon phase.

How does the waning energy affect you, dearest? Do you feel lethargic or irritable? That is okay if you do! Our energy ebbs and flows much like the Moon. However, everyone is different, so make note of your energy and emotions during each phase and see if a pattern emerges. I tend to feel crankier around this time, so I know what to expect and do what I can to neutralize it.

The Waning Moon is a great time to shed what is no longer serving you. This is an ideal time of the month to clean and donate any old items or clothing to start fresh for the new lunar month ahead. You can also concentrate on any old patterns of thought or behaviors you would like to get rid of.

A little releasing ceremony you can try is to write down a list of thoughts or patterns you would like to release. Put some time and though into this. After your list is completed, bury it (make sure it is eco-friendly, paper would be anyway, right?). After you have buried it, stand over the area (preferably with bare feet) and imagine those thoughts and patterns you are used to saying and doing. Really imagine them until you begin to feel them emotionally, notice if you tense up and where. Notice any images that come up for you. You can begin to silently chant:

"As the Moonlight wanes, I release these shadows that bind me."

As you repeat these words, see these these images, the thoughts and patterns, sinking down your body and out of your feet being soaked up by Mama Earth. The Earth is taking these off your shoulders so you may be freer and lighter. The next couple of days you could also carry some hematite around with you; it is a very grounding and stabilizing stone.

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter

P.s. If you decide to do the releasing ceremony, I would love to her from you! Feel free to comment or email me at marissa(dot)moondaughter @ gmail(dot)com!

Moon Days: Waxing Moon

Hello Dear Ones! I have officially labeled Mondays, as Moon Days (corny, I know) to celebrate the Moon, learn about Her cycles and to help you find your unique relationship with Her! Yay!

Some may ask, "Why is this important, Moondaughter?" Well, it is my own personal belief, that women are closely connected with the Moon. The Moon affects the natural world, through the tides of the ocean, animal  mating and migrations, as well as the growth of plants, so why wouldn't She affect us humans? We are made up of at least 70 percent of water, so She must have some sway on us. Plus, our menstruation cycles follow (or used to anyway, before technology and hormonal contraceptives) the monthly cycles of the Moon. I believe when we strive to follow these natural cycles more closely; we connect with ourselves more deeply; we connect with nature more sacredly; and we live in a more healthy way. It sounds like a win-win situation to me!

Right now the Moon is waxing, meaning growing to fullness. The crescent is usually pointing to the left and this phase roughly lasts for two weeks. The energy is buzzing right now and will build up to the Full Moon.  Some people feel wonderful during this phase, with high energy and motivation, while others may feel too antsy or anxious. Take note how you feel this week until the Full Moon on July 3rd.

Personally, I am pretty motivated at the moment. A lot of ideas brew for me during this phase, sometimes it can get overwhelming! The Waxing Moon is a great phase to tackle projects you want to get done, and plan for any new ventures and goals you may have. So get creating!

You may want to start a Moon journal to track your journey with following your own Moon :)

How do you feel during this Waxing Moon, dear souls?

Love and Blessings,
Marissa Moondaughter
